John was such a character in the very best way. Martha and I are so grateful to have been John and Julia’s neighbors for a few years on Beechwood Ave. In that time I got to know John pretty well. John had some crazy ideas but the difference between John and others is that he would actually do the things he talked about. I remember when he built that teardrop camper trailer. He just built it! He figured out how to design it and wire it. And he just built it. Then he and the kids traveled with it. John was bored one year so he decided to become a school teacher. For the hell of it. He just did things. Some folks know how to get so much out of life. I wish I was more like John and to the young ones I say ‘Be like John!’. Live fully. We will forever be grateful to John and Julia for their support and encouragement when our son Adam was diagnosed with cancer. When we found out Adam would be losing his hair due to chemo therapy Julia and John gave us matching mohawks. Adam is just fine now. Thank you John for being a one of a kind. Though I haven’t seen you in the flesh for some time I will not forget being your friend. Roll Tide and Go Dawgs!
